24.07.202610:52 ফরেক্স বিশ্লেষণ এবং পর্যালোচনা: STOXX rout, Google fine, Intel triumph, and AMD breakthrough

Relevance up to 04:00 2026-07-26 UTC--4

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

European equities saw a sharp decline as Brent topped $100 and the ECB warned of imported inflation risks. Intel's strong quarterly report fuelled optimism on data-center and AI demand. The EU levied a record fine on Google under the new DMA law, highlighting regulatory risks for the tech sector. In addition, AMD announced a headline product — EPYC Venice 2nm server CPUs with up to 256 cores — a release that could shift the balance of power in the computing sphere. Together these events heighten market volatility and underscore the intersection of geopolitics, regulation, and technological progress.

European stocks suffer biggest drop in two weeks as oil tops $100

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

European markets posted a sharp sell-off on Thursday. Under pressure from soaring oil prices, hawkish ECB rhetoric, and some disappointing corporate results, the STOXX 600 fell by 1.3% to 638.5, marking the largest single-session drop in more than two weeks and prompting broad sector-wide selling.

The immediate trigger was oil. Brent futures surpassed the $100/bbl mark for the first time since late May after Houthi forces in Yemen claimed drone and missile strikes on two Saudi oil tankers — Encelia and Layla — in the Red Sea.

The attacks exacerbated transport disruptions through the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz and extended a five-day rally that has pushed Brent more than 33% higher over the past month.

Further pressure came from the ECB. The regulator left the deposit rate unchanged, but President Christine Lagarde warned that a sharp rise in oil prices amid Middle East tensions increases the risk of renewed imported inflation in Europe.

Markets read this as a sign that a planned rate cut in September could be delayed, because future policy moves remain "fully data dependent."

Corporate headlines reinforced the downside. Nestle plunged by nearly 8%, notching its worst day since 1989, after announcing the sale of half its water business, including Perrier and S.Pellegrino, to Platinum Equity for €3bn in cash.

STMicroelectronics collapsed by 17.7% after guiding Q3 revenue slightly below consensus, dragging the broader tech sector down about 2.9%. Finnish paper and biomaterials group Stora Enso dipped by 8.5% on operating profits that missed expectations.

Nevertheless, there were winners. TotalEnergies rose by 2.5% on its best quarterly results in nearly three years, and Dassault Aviation jumped by nearly 8% after strong half-year numbers.

The market remains highly sensitive to geopolitics and policy. The combination of higher energy costs, central bank rhetoric, and mixed earnings increases volatility. And investors will watch closely for further signals from oil producers, corporates, and central banks.

Intel beats expectations: revenue and profit rise, shares surge

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

Intel reported Q2 2026 results that materially beat expectations. Revenue came in at $16.1bn, up 25% year-on-year, marking the strongest quarterly growth in more than 15 years. That significantly exceeded Intel's own guidance ($13.8–14.8bn) and the Street consensus (~$14.4bn).

On adjusted (non-GAAP) EPS, Intel delivered $0.42 versus a loss of $0.10 a year earlier, roughly double the average analyst forecast of $0.22. The stock jumped by about 11% in after-hours trading.

What drove that rally?

The data-center and AI segment was the primary growth engine, posting revenue of $6.3bn, up 59% y/y.

Client computing and edge AI revenue rose by 13% to $8.9bn.

Intel Foundry (contract manufacturing) grew by 31%, with revenue of $5.8bn. Management attributes the outperformance to a wave of demand for computing power driven by AI.

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

CEO Lip-Bu Tan commented that AI is creating unprecedented demand and that Intel is well positioned for sustainable growth thanks to its processor roadmap, custom silicon capabilities, advanced packaging, and integrated wafer-fab network.

He also emphasised the company's focus on speed, responsibility, and customer centricity.

Products and partnerships

Intel unveiled a new rack-scale AI infrastructure solution developed with SambaNova and Foxconn, aimed at inference and agent workloads. The company also announced the Xeon 6+ server processor built on the Intel 18A node — a step toward higher performance and improved power efficiency for servers.

Takeaway

Intel's report was materially stronger than expected: revenue growth and a positive EPS print are clear positives. The data-center and AI cycle appears to remain the dominant demand driver, sustaining momentum for the company.

EU fines Google €890m: what happened and market implications

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

The European Commission fined Google €890 million — the bloc's first penalty under the new Digital Markets Act (DMA). Regulators concluded that Google systematically privileges its own services in search results (for example, shopping and booking offerings), to the detriment of competing third parties.

The €890m fine (roughly $1bn) is the DMA's first major sanction since the rules took effect in 2024 and tightened obligations for so-called "gatekeepers" (companies such as Alphabet, Apple, and Meta are named in the legislation).

The Commission found that Google prevented app developers on Google Play from fairly informing users about external offers, including cheaper alternatives, thereby restricting competition.

Google has 60 days to comply with the Commission's remedies. Failure to implement the required changes could expose the company to fines of up to 5% of global turnover.

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

Google said the required changes will affect how its products operate. Kent Walker, Google/Alphabet's SVP for Global Affairs, said the DMA forces the company to remove some features — for example, instant display of pricing and availability for hotels and restaurants — which, in his view, will degrade the user experience. Google is reviewing the Commission's decision and is considering an appeal.

The Commission noted Google is already testing new ways of displaying its services in search, and said it will monitor subsequent changes closely. The regulator also judged Google's recent Google Play terms update to be insufficient.

How did markets react?

In pre-market trading, Alphabet shares fell by roughly 4% as investors digested the fine and renewed concerns about rising AI-related spending, which the company flagged in recent disclosures.

This type of regulatory action typically increases volatility across the tech sector and can spill over into adjacent markets — travel platforms, online aggregators, and companies that rely on search traffic.

AMD launches EPYC Venice 2nm processors with up to 256 cores

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

At the Advancing AI 2026 conference in San Francisco, AMD officially unveiled the new EPYC 9006 server family codenamed Venice — the company's first CPUs manufactured on TSMC's 2nm node and built on the new Zen 6 architecture. CEO Lisa Su said production is already underway and initial shipments are scheduled for Q3 2026.

The headline product is the flagship EPYC 9996: up to 256 compact Zen 6c cores and 512 threads on the new SP7 socket — roughly 33% more cores than the previous-generation Turin (192 cores).

The chip is built from eight compute chiplets, each containing 32 Zen 6c cores and 128 MB of L3 cache. In top?end configurations, aggregate L3 reaches 1,024 MB, nearly three times the predecessor's L3 capacity.

Memory support is 16-channel DDR5 with MRDIMM at 12,800 MT/s, delivering up to ~1.6 TB/s of socket bandwidth. Single-socket systems provide up to 128 lanes of PCIe Gen6.

AMD showed four Venice variants. The SP7 lineup launches first and includes both high-frequency models with up to 128 standard Zen 6 cores and "dense" configurations up to 256 cores.

Exchange Rates 24.07.2026 analysis

An SP8 family for compact enterprise and scale?out solutions is due in H1 2027 — up to 128 cores and eight-channel memory.

Separately announced were Venice-X with 3D V-Cache and Verano. Venice-X is slated for H2 2027 on SP7: 96 cores, 1,152 MB of multi-level L3 cache and boost clocks up to 5.15 GHz. Verano is an SP8 variant with up to 72 cores and a 24-channel LPDDR5X subsystem on SOCAMM2 modules. According to Su, it is optimized for next-generation rack-scale AI host nodes.

In short, AMD has made a major technology step: moving to 2nm and Zen 6 promises significant gains in core density and cache. The EPYC 9996 notably increases core counts and L3 capacity, critical for scalable compute and AI workloads.

This announcement may generate volatility in AMD shares and across the semiconductor and server-hardware ecosystem. Traders can consider a range of ideas, from event-driven speculation to positioning in AI and data-center related sectors.
