Trade Analysis and Advice for Trading the Japanese Yen
The price test at 158.84 occurred when the MACD indicator was just beginning to move up from the zero line, confirming a correct entry point for buying the dollar. As a result, the pair rose by more than 20 points.
Geopolitical risks associated with the escalation of the conflict in the region inevitably lead to rising oil and other energy prices. This occurs both due to concerns about supply disruptions and increased demand for raw materials amid heightened military activity. High energy prices, in turn, exert direct inflationary pressure on the global economy. Today, the Federal Reserve will need to address this issue following its meeting, which could significantly impact future interest rate policy. On one hand, rising inflation may require more decisive actions to curb it, including raising rates or maintaining them at a high level longer than initially planned. On the other hand, such a policy would hit an already slowing economy. If the FOMC decides on a tighter monetary policy, this will generally strengthen the U.S. dollar.
In addition, today the U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) data will be released. This indicator, especially the core version excluding food and energy prices, provides insight into current inflationary pressures in the economy. While PPI is not the main catalyst for today's trading, it will serve as an important complement to the overall market picture.
For intraday strategy, I will mainly rely on scenarios #1 and #2.
Buy Signal
Scenario #1: Buy USD/JPY today at the entry point around 159.10 (green line on the chart) with a target of 159.62 (thicker green line on the chart). Around 159.62, I plan to exit long positions and open sales in the opposite direction (aiming for a 30–35 point move in reverse). The pair's growth can be expected following strong economic data.
Important: Before buying, ensure the MACD indicator is above zero and just beginning to rise from that level.
Scenario #2: I also plan to buy USD/JPY in case of two consecutive tests of 158.84 while the MACD indicator is in the oversold zone. This will limit the pair's downward potential and trigger a reversal upward. Growth can be expected toward 159.10 and 159.62.
Sell Signal
Scenario #1: Sell USD/JPY today after the level of 158.84 is broken (red line on the chart), which should lead to a rapid decline. The key target for sellers is 158.33, where I plan to exit and immediately open purchases in the opposite direction (aiming for a 20–25 point move). Selling pressure could return if the data is very weak.
Important: Before selling, ensure the MACD indicator is below zero and just beginning to move down from that level.
Scenario #2: I also plan to sell USD/JPY in case of two consecutive tests of 159.10 while the MACD indicator is in the overbought zone. This will limit upward potential and trigger a reversal downward. A decline toward 158.84 and 158.23 can be expected.
