Comcast Corporation is a US telecommunications company that provides broadband Internet access and offers services of video broadcasting and telephony. The Comcast Corporation shares are traded on the Nasdaq electronic exchange.

Comcast was founded in 1969 in Pennsylvania, USA.

During its existence, Comcast Corporation purchased the most profitable and mainly regional telecom assets. The company took a stake in such companies as Spectator, Comcast SportsNet, E! Entertainment Television, Style Network, G4, Golf Channel, and NBC Sports Network.

History of the company:

In 1996 the company purchased Sarasota Online, one of the largest Internet providers in Florida and launched a broadband Internet access, Comcast Online.

In 1998 NTL purchased the British office of Comcast.

In 1999 Comcast signed a merger agreement with MediaOne. In the same year the company was rebranded and a new logo was developed.

In December 2005 Comcast created a new unit, Comcast Interactive Media (CIM), specializing in online media.

In 2006 the company launched a new sports channel, SportsNet New York, in partnership with the New York Mets and Time Warner Cable.

In September 2008 SmartZone dashboard comes into the market. SmartZone allows subscribers to send and receive emails as well as listen to voicemail messages online.

In September 2010 the number of subscribers of Comcast cable networks reached 22.9 million; high-speed Internet users totaled about 17 million; and voice services subscribers made up nearly 8.5 million.

In 2011 Comcast decided to diversify its business becoming a principal shareholder in the NBCUniversal media group.
