在亞洲市場於週日開盤之初，黃金與原油市場波動劇烈之際，引入連續交易尤其具有意義。這為交易員提供了難得的機會，可以更迅速地回應週末期間可能發生的事件與新聞。特別是，圍繞伊朗衝突的和平協議前景充滿不確定性，可能在市場開盤時引發明顯波動。
由於期貨市場通常自週五晚間休市至週日晚間，不少交易員會轉向加密貨幣市場，或使用黃金支持的代幣，在週末進行風險對沖。
CME Group 資深董事總經理暨商品市場部主管 Derek Sammann 表示：「在地緣政治局勢動盪的背景下，交易員愈來愈希望在商品市場中分散投資組合風險。我們全新的 WTI 原油與黃金期貨，提供了受監管、契約規模適中的 24 小時全天候交易工具，讓交易員在任何最新消息傳出時，都能及時管理風險。」
新的小型 WTI 原油期貨合約規模，將僅為 CME Group 既有微型 WTI 原油期貨的十分之一。交易所補充說，這份 10 桶規模的 WTI 合約將採現金交割。
在 2025 年 1 月，CME 推出了一盎司黃金期貨合約，因合約規模較小，主要鎖定散戶交易員。交易所指出，今年其最小規模黃金合約的交易極為活躍，日均成交量約為 9 萬口。
這份一盎司合約同樣將採現金交割。
黃金期貨的週末交易將自 7 月 26 日起啟動，而原油期貨的全天候交易則預計自 8 月 30 日開始。
